First Wellness, located in Red Deer, Alberta. Our approach is to focus our treatment program on indigenous youth, helping them overcome their addiction or other mental health issues.
APPROACH

The First Wellness healing philosophy incorporates an approach that combines Indigenous knowledge and culture with western therapeutic best practices often referred to as Two-Eyed Seeing.

Two-Eyed Seeing is a concept coined by Mi’kmaw Elder Albert Marshall. It encourages us to view the world through dual perspectives, integrating the strengths of both Indigenous ways of knowing and Western knowledge.

Imagine having two eyes — one eye representing Indigenous wisdom and the other representing Western science. By using both eyes together, we gain a more comprehensive understanding of health, healing, and wellness.

  • Holistic Care: Combining Indigenous wisdom and Western science allows us to address physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of health.
  • Cultural Competence: Integrating diverse perspectives fosters cultural humility and sensitivity.
  • Collaboration: Working collaboratively with Indigenous healers, therapists, and practitioners enriches therapeutic approaches.

Cultural teachings and activities, counselling and therapy including trauma informed, substance abuse, etc., education while in program such as tutoring are provided. Noninsured Health Benefits Indigenous and Inuit (NHIB) psychologist available if chosen.
